Senior Cooking Alternatives

Senior receives home grocery delivery

While cooking may be an option for some seniors for others cooking my no longer be an option. Many companies are offering home delivered meal options that caregivers can coordinate over the internet or the phone.  Below are some options and signs to consider when deciding if cooking is not an option.  Be alert for signs that a senior might not be as handy—or safe—in the kitchen as they once were.

Some clues the senior needs help with meal prep and cooking are:

  • Spoiled food in the refrigerator, an empty refrigerator.
  • Unable to lift dishes in and out of the cupboard.
  • Forgetting to turn off the stove burner or oven, pans are burned (signs they were left on the stove too long).
  • Cutting skills are shaky.
